FAQs

At Lex and Dot Bridal we believe that finding your wedding dress should be full of excitment. We want to make sure you have all the information you need to feel confident and truely happy when you say yes to the one. With that in mind, please find some frequently asked questions answered below. If you have a question not answered below or you just want more information on something we are always happy for you to give us a call on 07834233821 or email info@lexanddotbridal.com

How can I book an appointment?

To book an appointment with us please select "Book Appointment' from menu above. This will take you through to a calendar so you can select a time that works for you. If you would like an evening appointment, where we can we will always accommodate this so please give us a call on 07834233821 or email info@lexanddotbridal.com

How long does the appointment last?

Your appointment will last approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes, giving you time to try on around 6-8 gowns. The first appointment costs only £10 and this is redeemable off your purchase. Any subsequent appointments are free of charge. Every visit is designed to be an enjoyable and relaxed experience.

Who should I bring with me?

We understand that this is an exciting time not only for you but for those you choose to share it with too. We have space for up to 4 VIPs in addition to the bride. Babes in arms and children 12+ are welcome but must be supervised. Our boutique is intimate and relaxed and we find limiting your guest numbers will also make it a more enjoyable experience as too many loved ones all giving their opinions can sometimes be a little overwhelming and confusing. Always remember, your opinion and how you feel is what truely counts when finding your perfect dress.

When should I start looking and what should I bring?

We recommend having your wedding date (and venue) confirmed before booking an appointment as it helps to guide you in finding the perfect gown. It takes approximately 5-6 months for a dress to be made and arrive at the boutique. Once your dress arrives you will need to allow 1-3 months for alternations. Ideally we recommend saying yes to the dress a year or more before your wedding date. This means you avoid any rush fees and ensure a relaxing and enjoyable experience with plenty of time for any alternations. However, we do ave some incredible designers who can make and delivery your dress in as little as 4 months for a rush fee so if you do need your dress a little quicker than normal then we are the place for you.

If your wedding is less than 9 months away then please give us a call on 07834233821 and we can discuss your options in more detail and hopefully get you in for an appointment quickly.  We also have some sample dresses that can be taken away the same day and adjusted to fit you to perfection.

For your appointment nude, seamless underwear is best but do not worry too much. Shoes are not essential at this stage as we have a lovely podium so you can see how the dress falls. Please do refer to our socials and website to get a idea of the dresses we have and let us know any styles you like/ want to try and we can advice from there!

What happens during my appointment?

Throughout your entire appointment you will receive one-to-one personalised consultation and you will have our undivided attention. The boutique is situated it a private and intimate location. We have a separate fitting suite in which you can try on around 6-8 of our stunning gowns and then pull back the curtain and walk through our floral arch to show your family and friends. Once you have found the dress we also have a range of beautiful veils for you to try.

How do I pay for the dress?

We take a minimum of 50% of the cost of the dress to place your order. The remaining balance can be paid no later than at the collection appointment. You can pay in the boutique on the day by card or transfer online or over the phone (just let us know what works best for you). Just be aware that we cannot order your made to measure dress until the 50% deposit has been paid. Please note, if your gown is a sample gown, then you will pay in full and take your gown away with you the same day.

I've found my dress! What happens next?

Once you have said yes to your dress we will take a minimum of 50% deposit and we will then place your order with the designer. Once the designer confirms the delivery date of your dress we will let you and then we may go a little quiet for a while as your dress is being made. If in this time you want to check in or you have any questions please feel free to get in touch. If you have also purchased a veil then this may be available before your gown is so if you would like to collect it, for example for a hair trial, just let us know.

When your gown arrives at the shop we will call you in for a collection appoint which will last about 30-45 minutes and will typically take place on a weekday. Once you have the gown on we will take some notes on the fit and any elements you may want tweaking during your alterations. You will then pay any remaining balance and take your gown away with you :)

What is your alterations set up?

We are lucky to work with a few experience Bridal seamstresses in Kent to make the experience easy for you, although of course, you are more than welcome to use your own seamstress. On average you will have 2-3 fittings and typically the first will take place around 2-3 months prior to your wedding day.

Standard alternations cost between £250 - £350 and include things such as adjusting the fit, amending hem lines, adding a bustle and shortening straps to make the dress perfect for you. If you would like to discuss more elaborate changes, the total cost may be more. Please note, the seamstress will need to meet with you and your dress to quote the work with 100% certainty. The alterations remain a separate step of the process and the fee for the work undertaken is payable directly to the seamstress.

If you would like to use one of our seamstress partners, we can discuss options and we would be happy to prompt them to reach out to you following your collection appointment and we can discuss any notes made with them prior to your first fitting appointment.

Can I take photos?

This is your experience and if you want to you can of course take photos but we do discourage it. Please be aware that scrutinising over pictures after an appointment is rarely a positive experience.  They should be used to prompt your memory only and you should remember that the dress you tried on would likely have been fitted with clips and you may have ordered a slightly adjusted version so will not provide a true memory of how beautiful you looked and felt in the gown. A mental snapshot, the reactions of loved ones and how you felt in the moment is the best reminder. If you would really like a visual of you in your gown we suggest a short video which provides a much more accurate record of how you looked and felt the day you found your dress. We are happy to do this for you and AirDrop it.

Can I take photos?

We have a stunning collection of gowns at the boutique from a collection of incredible small designers. Our dresses range from £1200 - £2800. Sample gowns are sold at a heavily discounted price, they are in an excellent condition and can be taken away the same day. These start at around £900 which is paid on the day and are non returnable.

We have a selection of sizes available for you to try on but we only stock each dress in one size so our expert stylists may use clips etc to give you the best idea of how the dress will fit you to perfection. Most of our dresses are sized at UK 10-16.
